How to Make Teddy Bear Cake Pops

Posted on by

Bear popAt first I was intimidated at the thought of making a cake pop that was anything other than a ball but it turns out that itís not that hard to take them to the next level. The bear heads for example are more labor intensive to make but do not require that much more technical ability than basic cake pops.

To make the bears, first crumble some cake and add icing so that you can roll it into cake balls. Refrigerate the balls for at least an hour. If you want to refrigerate longer thatís completely fine. Sometimes I canít get back to my pops for a day or so.

Then melt some chocolate and take your balls out of the refrigerator. Dip your cake pop sticks into the melted chocolate about half an inch and place into the balls. Do not try to pick up the cake pops yet. Refrigerate the cake pops for another 10 minutes or so to ensure the chocolate has set. This keeps the cake ball from sliding off the stick while you dip the pop.

While the cake pops are in the refrigerator get some Smarties candies and Skittles and set aside. You may also need to reheat your chocolate if starting to cool.

Take your pops out and using a toothpick put a small amount of melted chocolate on the ball where the ears and snout should go. For the ears place the Smarties candy each and for the snout place a Skittle. You could use only Skittles for both the snout and ears but the Smarties candy has the depression that helps to create a nice dimension for the ear. Place back in the refrigerator for another 10 minutes.

Now that you have your heads formed, you can cover them with chocolate. Dip the pops one at a time and cover completely. Gently tap the stick on the side of the bowl if there is excess chocolate. Place back in the refrigerator for another 10 minutes.

To finish the pops, using your toothpick again place a small amount of chocolate by the right ear. Using two heart shaped candy sprinkles you can make the bow. Place a round confetti sprinkle in the center. Using some more round confetti sprinkles you can make the eyes. Another heart makes for cute nose. The last thing you can do is take an edible ink marker and draw on the bottom of the mouth and add pupils to the eyes.

Enjoy your bear pops!
